About the Prohibition Six

Formed in 1981 by trumpet player Derek Lucas,The Prohibition Six has been playing vintage jazz from the 1920's,30's and 40's for nearly 30 years. They played in the 1981 Central City Jazz Festival and the Boulder Friends of Jazz festivals in the 1990's. In its early years, the band was strictly instrumental, but soon realized the value of having a female vocalist.the first was Faye McKay who sang for several years in Las Vegas. After Faye retired, the band was fortunate enough to recruit its current vocalist,Cindy Chengery whose pedigree includes many years singing on the 'American Queen" and "Delta Queen" Mississippi riverboats.Although the band personnel has changed over the years, the current lineup has been together for almost five years which has resulted in the tight sound and harmonies it now has.
